The Regional Municipality of Niagara (Niagara Region) is located in Southern Ontario between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Niagara Region is an upper-tier municipality with 12 area (lower-tier) municipalities. Niagara Region is largely rural with several small and medium-sized urban areas. The City of St. Catharines (population 131,400) is the most populous area municipality in Niagara Region.
