The Toronto Centre for Active Transportation (TCAT) held a launch event on Thursday, May 5th, for their new book, Complete Street Transformations in the Greater Golden Horseshoe Region.
The book showcases nine Complete Street projects recently undertaken in Toronto and the surrounding municipalities. The diverse project designs included the installation of bike lanes, accessibility, pedestrian and streetscape improvements, and the building of new transit lines. Projects ranged in cost from an affordable $11,200 road diet and bike lane intervention in Guelph, ON, to $308 million for a new rapid bus right of way in the City of Markham and Town of Richmond Hill.
The book pays particular attention to how municipailities are evaluating these Complete Street projects. Outcomes tracked included pedestrian and cyclist user counts, collision data, transit ridership and travel times, motorist travel times, feelings of safety, number of summer patios, and summer street festival attendees. Overall, these indicators paint a positive picture for the future of Complete Streets in the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
